Anyone who has spent time in Santa Fe knows about the consistent offering of events to be found around town. Last Friday, The Plaza was lined with a colorful array of antique cars dating back to the early forties and fifties. In some way it complimented the feeling of antiquity you can't help but notice as you look down the street to the St. Francis cathedral. How young these vintage automobiles seem against the backdrop that is Santa Fe. In the late afternoon, music played, people stopped to take in the surroundings, a vast array of color and style from times gone by amidst the shop windows with their offerings of apparel, jewelry, paintings, textiles, and crafts.
Continuing down San Francisco Street, a couple of blocks to the Lensic Theater, the premier of the Georgia O'Keefe film was in full swing. The show airs on the Lifetime channel on Septmemer 19 (http://www.mylifetime.com/about-us/academy-award-nominee-joan-allen-and-academy-award-winner-jeremy-irons-to-headline-cast-of-lifetime-original), but for anyone who is an O’Keefe fan, it is essential to visit her museum (http://www.okeeffemuseum.org/) just a few blocks away to see her collection of work.
Meanwhile at the Don Gaspar Inn, the weekend’s travelers arrived excited to learn the lay of the land, but first resting for a moment to savor the unexpected gardens that awaited them upon arrival. They grabbed a hot cup of tea and a fresh baked cookie and prepared for their first night in Santa Fe, be it for a quick bite at a neighborhood restaurant, or the opening of an art exhibit, or maybe just to breathe the soothing mountain air.
A short walk from the Santa Fe Plaza...the Inn is often described as "the best kept secret in Santa Fe". Set in the traditional compound style and featuring 3 distinct architechtural styles of the southwest, it is the perfect place to come home to after a long day of discovery. Still growing and improving after almost 2 decades...we welcome our guests to discover the City Different from the charm of The Don Gaspar Inn.
