Off of Bishop's Lodge Road, a few blocks from The Don Gaspar Inn, is Artists road that leads to Hyde Park and The Santa Fe Ski Basin. In a fifteen mile span upward, you are initially greeted by a perfect mix of nature and architecure in a vast expanse on either side. Estate homes line the road until you are finally in the expanse of Aspen and Pine groves. A few miles in the popular spa and bath house Ten Thousand Waves will greet you on the left as you head up the mountain. The remaining twelve mile drive provides many areas to hike and camp, or just rest alongside a landscape marked with trees and mountains in the distance. Waterfalls and trailheads are abundant as you explore the trails that lead to the Sangre de Cristos. Travel from the top of the mountain and you can hike for a day until you end up on the Pecos side of the trails. Fall is a most beautiful time to visit Santa Fe with a mild transitional climate, beautiful fall colors that are turning red, yellow and orange and crisp air. The Plaza, restaurants and galleries are active but not crowded and it is a wonderful time to visit with artists, chefs, creative talent all through town. It is not yet ski season, so the top of the mountain is a quiet welcome foreboding of what will come, the winter snow and a mountain adventure overlooking Santa Fe.
